Teeth cleaning is part of oral hygiene and involves the removal of dental plaque from teeth with the intention of preventing cavities, gingivitis, and periodontal disease
During a routine cleaning, the hygienist uses a small, metal scaler to scrape off tartar above and below the gum line, and/or an ultrasonic vibrating device to loosen plaque and tartar. The areas between your teeth will also be cleaned with floss or another tool, and your teeth polished with a gently abrasive paste.
Is cleaning teeth good or bad?
Even if you brush and floss regularly, getting a cleaning is a great way to keep your mouth healthy and odor-free. Studies have shown a connection between oral and overall health. Regular dental cleanings may help lower your risk for some diseases, like heart disease and stroke.
